Living in harmony
The dog’s language, his being is completely focused on a harmonious gathering, working together.
His language is aimed at preserving life, naturally there is no need for (unnecessary) fighting. The dog is a flight animal. Just fighting costs energy, that energy he needs for his reproduction and food.
Fighting for his prey, defining his territory, or defending himself because your dog is threatened with his life, is different. That is fighting to maintain its kind.
Fighting naturally has a function.
But the dog will only do that if all his warnings are not respected.
Discover conflict avoidance signals
The dog will first use his very subtle conflict avoidance signals :
– with his eyes flashing
– turn his head away
– wagging wagging
– lick the mouth
Subsequently, if there is not listened to, there are clearer conflict-avoiding signals :
– “to freeze”
– turn the ass
– sit or lie down
If you do not listen to this either, the dog will only start to growl or show threatening teeth, (which in itself may also be called conflict avoidance signals.) He growls or threatens to warn you to avoid a fight!)
Only when the whole range of signals he gives are not seen, or respected, he is forced to bite himself off or to turn completely into himself.
So a lot of things go before he joins or goes into the defense.
The trick is to start recognizing the conflict signals of your own dog and also of a possible other dog.
Only then will it be possible to take measures in time and bring about a positive progress.
In addition, the bond with the dog is also stronger. The dog experiences that he finds connection and is understood.
His owner becomes the one who understands and gets him out of difficult situations. That gives confidence and limits stress.
