Is nail cutting necessary?
Yes. If the nails become too long, there is a constant pressure on the feet and legs of the dog. This can result in a different position of the feet. Too long nails are peak to walking and cares that the dog is cramped from limping. An inflammation on the toes is also not excluded.
It is therefore important that you keep a close eye on the nails too long.
What do you need?
1. Special nail scissors for dogs
2. Dog nail file
3. Alum of alum powder
4. Lots of goodies
Some use a dremel (type of abrasive tool) to shorten the nails. This increases and it can cause splitting of the nail.
How do you know that nails are too long?
If the nails touch the ground. The measuring device is that you have to be able to slide a sheet of paper under the nails without resistance. The nails of the dog above on the picture are too long. Let it be; in some (senior) dogs the feet have sagged somewhat and this does not work 100%.
How do you know where life begins?
If a dog has white nails, it is clear to see where life begins. You then see through the perspiration with a pink, flesh-colored part. This is delicate tissue that you should not cut! You are at most 2 mm for life.
In dogs with black nails it is not possible to see where life starts from the outside. The best you can in that case always cut small pieces until you see a darker dot appear in the core of the nail, then you know that you are alive.
Let your dog in between, even on four legs, see the nails hit the ground. If you have a sheet, you can do it shortly enough. If in doubt, you can also file.
What if you accidentally cut into life?
Do not panic, you can put the blood. Alps to do. This is on sale at most drugstores in the form of a stick of powder.
