Removing a tick from your dog
Although removing a tick from your dog is not an emergency, it is better to remove the tick immediately. This prevents the potential transfer of dangerous conditions such as Lyme disease. The removal of ticks is fairly simple, the only thing you need is a drawing tweezer.
Removing with the fingers or with normal tweezers is not recommended. Often the head of the tick remains in the skin. This can lead to some reaction.
The best way to remove the tick is to use a specially designed drawing tweezer. There are different variants.
Never anesthetize the tick with alcohol, just then they broke their stomach contents into the skin
You pick the tick with the tweezers as close as possible to the skin of your dog, so you avoid the head stays stuck.
Then you turn the tweezers until the tick comes off (left or right does not matter)
Before disposing of the tick (eg in the sink), check that you have also removed the head.
If the head is still stuck, it will have to swell out just like a deep splinter. Often there is a bump on the spot where a tick has been. This is not serious, this hump disappears automatically.
In the event of symptoms after having a tick (eg lethargy / fever / walking), it is important to consult a veterinarian quickly.
