5 Tips for a good dog name:
1. Short and simple dog names work best and are most practical
Keep the name short and simple, maximum 2 syllables. That works best with commands and when you have to call your dog. Imagine that you have to call Timotei or Isabella and compare that with Tim or Bella.
2. Consider whether a funny dog ??name is also really funny in a while
In a jolly mood people sometimes want to think up funny dog ??names. But remember whether it is still funny in a while that you have named your dog Bacardi or Grolsch (yes they really exist!).
3. Do not let a dog name appear on a command
Consider in advance which commands you want to teach your dog. Names like Brit and Waf are much too much like “sitting” and “finishing”. Confusing for the dog and not so handy when you call your dog at a distance and he will then sit down :). Also calling your dog Bas while you have a relative who is called Bastiaan can be confusing for the dog.
4. A dog name is for life
Keep in mind that a dog name is for life. Choose a name that fits your dog well, now and in the future. Puppy may seem cute, but not for an old Bernese Mountain Dog.
5. Choose a dog name together
If you do not immediately agree with choosing a name, make each a top 20 list, perhaps there is overlap in the chosen dog names.
