My Dog is Coughing ?

By admin

Dogs can cough for many different reasons. Below you can click through to the page with detailed information. In many cases antibiotics are not necessary.

Kennel cough (infectious bronchitis)

Has your dog been in contact with a cold dog and is he now coughing himself and does he have watery eyes and / or a snot nose? Then he may suffer from kennel cough.

Pneumonia

If your dog also has fever in addition to the above problems and he feels sick, he may have pneumonia. Pneumonia can also be caused by choking or a grass.

Bronchitis (allergic bronchitis)

If your dog has had a dry cough for some time, but no other symptoms, this may indicate a chronic bronchitis. An early treatment can effectively inhibit the disease and positively influence the prognosis.

Collaps from the trachea

In small dogs of middle age, the trachea can become slack and flatten. This often leads to a hard honking cough. Just as with chronic bronchitis, pain can later prevent distress.

Tumors

Tumors almost always occur in older dogs. Tumors in the airways can cause cough complaints. The diagnosis is generally made with an X-ray or bronchoscopy. Lung cancer is sometimes good to operate.

Strange objects in the windpipe

If your dog comes coughing and stabbing from the tall grass, or if the symptoms arise when your dog chokes, there is probably a foreign object in the trachea. Contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.

Heart failure

Dogs with heart complaints can also cough. Older dogs can often have both heart problems and respiratory problems. A heart noise in the coughing dog does not always mean that the complaints really come from the heart.

Dogs with chronic bronchitis often have a heart murmur.

Plain pills can reduce the coughing stimulus in chronic bronchitis and thus do not only work with heart problems. A dog who starts coughing less after giving water pills,
therefore does not necessarily have to have a heart problem. Many dogs with a heart noise receive unnecessarily expensive cardiac medication instead of the cheaper drugs for chronic bronchitis. A good examination of the heart and an independent advice can save you a lot of costs.
