Obedience training is indispensable for the education of your dog.
During this training, the dog and the owner learn about basic commands in a controlled environment.
Why obedience training with your dog ?
Obedience training is invaluable for dog and dog owner. In this course the owner learns how he guides his dog as well as possible in human society.
In addition, training together strengthens the mutual bond and communication. Even though we have lived side by side for thousands of years, our human world can be a mystery to your dog.
Busy traffic, quietly on the line walking, domestic rules. All these concepts sound familiar and familiar to us. But there is a good chance that your dog does not find this logical at all.
That’s why he has a lot to learn from puppy. A process that continues all dog life, because no life remains the same.
The dog boss must play an active role in this. Because with whom does the dog spend more hours a day ? And who better understands human life than the owner ?
This concept is extremely important during the training. Your dog does nothing wrong by not following certain rules. He simply does not understand why it is so important.
For this reason, obedience training can be the key to a safe and relaxed life for you and your dog friend !
The basis of Obedience training
Usually obedience training follows level on the puppy course or Social Home training. These lessons take the dog and boss further in learning and executing different commands.
But before the couple can move to a higher level of training, the basis must be in order. There are obedience classes at all levels. For this reason, the first and easiest course starts at the base of dog education.
But what exactly does this mean ?
In order to be able to get through everyday situations safely and with control, the first obedience level requires the control of the basic commands. This means the following :
– Keep waiting
– Walk neatly on the line
– To sit
When these commands can be followed at all times, the dog and the owner have a good foundation to build on.
Obedience training : The learning process
Strengthening mutual communication and bonding is essential during obedience training. When the dog understands the boss and is rewarded, he will want to listen better. This creates a safe and relaxed way of living together.
Rewarding at the right time is the most important aspect of the training. When this is consistently maintained, the dog will feel encouraged and become motivated.
Physical punishment is therefore out of the question. This creates tension, which makes the dog less able to learn or not.
Strict addressing is of course allowed. But with consistent action, giving clear commands and correctly rewarding you get a lot further.
To learn, positive relaxation is therefore required. This does not mean, however, that your dog is not allowed to show enthusiasm. Because how do you motivate the dog to learn ?
Every dog ? has a specific motivation. This means that he has a motive to start and finish a task.
For a successful learning process, it is important that the owner finds out what motivation fits his or her dog. Does the dog do anything for a cookie, a favorite toy or a nice hug ?
Once you have the motivation of your four-legged friend, you also have his attention. Without attention it is impossible to train a dog. So get his best cookies out of the cupboard, and train !
To learn and practice each command : keep it short, keep it fun. Better practice a couple of times with a good ending, then long sessions and frustration.
But how do you teach a dog the basic commands? We briefly discuss the exercises here.
Command Stay or wait
Leave your dog and give the line to a second person. Give the command “Stay” and walk two steps away. Turn around and do not look at the dog.
Wait one second, give the command “Come” and reward. Extend this concerns distance and waiting time quietly.
Have someone hold your dog at a distance. Call the name of the dog and give the command “Come”. Bend over or sit down on your crouch to invite your dog.
Reward immediately upon arrival and expand the distance further and further. In addition, keep standing upright after giving the command.
Keep something tasty in your closed hand in front of the dog’s nose. Give the command “Lig” and move your hand in an oblique direction to the ground. Make sure your dog does not follow this walking, but leans forward with his body.
Command Line up on the line
Running neatly on the line has everything to do with attention. Let your dog walk with his shoulder next to or behind your body. Ask your dog’s attention and hold it with a reward in sight as you go through. Keep this up for one second, reward immediately and expand it further. Does your dog keep running well ? Then you can expand with direction and tempo changes. Commando Sitting To teach the dog to sit, you keep a delicious reward in your closed hand in front of him. Give the command “Sit” and move the hand in front of the nose upwards, so that the dog’s body tilts backwards. If necessary, support sitting by gently pushing the buttocks with the empty hand. Reward right when the dog sits down.
Obedience training : Different levels
If your dog knows the basic commands, you can expand the obedience training. Many dog ??schools offer obedience courses, often with different levels.
