What is he dreaming about? This question will probably have been shot through your head when your dog starts to kick his legs in his sleep. Is he dreaming about you or perhaps about that rabbit that he was chasing this afternoon? Well .. that would be possible!
Like people, pets dream about things they experience during the day to process their day. It is also very likely that your dog or cat is dreaming about you, about your face and smell. But also how they can annoy you or make you happy.
Dogs are real sleeping heads
Dogs sleep 12 to 16 hours a day. During the day often short naps and deep sleep in the night. The deep sleep of a dog is very similar to that of a human being, because the deep sleep of the dog also consists of phases. The most well-known phase is REM sleep, Rapid Eye Movement. This is the phase in which you are most active and also in which you dream. In this phase it can happen that whiskers move, legs kick or maybe even barking.
Does a dog sometimes sleep badly?
A recent Hungarian study shows that dogs sleep worse when they are stressed. Like us, they are worrying and can therefore sleep badly. For example, the test group was stroked lovingly by the owner one evening. The other evening they were being addressed by an intimidating stranger. The dogs that had a stressful situation before they went to sleep, woke up more easily and were more difficult in their REM sleep.
